Range time with a Mosin 91/30, to celebrate the Heller decision!

To celebrate the Supreme Court Heller decision, I took myself off to the range this morning with an assortment of constitutionally protected personal property, owned by myself for purposes of enjoyment, self defense, and whatever else I please.

This post shows off one of my Mosin 91/30's, a Soviet main battle rifle of the WWII era. Here, I can be seen shooting supersonic armor piercing ammunition with near sniper accuracy.

The sharper eyed and more knowledgeable readers will see a marking in this image that does more to explain the good target results than my poor skills.

Yes, this is an Ex-sniper rifle, and certainly lives up to it's lineage.

It should be noted.... although I had with me TWO battle rifles, several semi-automatic handguns, as much ammunition as I could comfortably carry, and other assorted goodies; the following things did not happen:

  • I did not rob any stores
  • I did not threaten anybody while driving
  • My weapons did not leap up and shoot anybody of their own volition
  • Not one criminal stole my weapons to sell on the street
  • I did not commit suicide
  • I did not murder anyone
  • I did not overthrow my government
Yup, nobody is more amazed than I. Not one drop of blood spilled... amazing.

Hopefully you didn't bat those blue eyes at any unsuspecting women, or there might be chaos.

No.... I keep them dialed down to 'Eastwood slit' most of the time, just to cut down on the mayhem.

Smart that. . . . bring the gun next time we're at a shoot. That's sweet.

Did this 91/30 shoot high?
Does this rifle have its front site adjusted with that Q-tip trick?

What ammo did you use?

I have a 1938 Tula. Mine isn't an ex-sniper though. I love shooting it. I haven't figured it out completely yet. At 100 yds it seems to shoot about 10 inches high (yes 10) with light ball ammo.

Andy...
You bet it shot high. I think they all do, as a standard battle sight.
If it's ten inches high at 100 yards, then it's fine for man sized targets out to 350 yards or so. Just hold center mass.

Yes, this one has the Q-tip sight modification. It's high enough that I have the rear sight set at 600 meters, and it plants them dead on at 100 yards. I thought about cutting down the front site tube I installed, but the sight picture is so nice now I am loath to change it.

Earth bound....
This trip out it was Bulgarian light ball.

You forgot to mention that no Main Stream Media were reporting on your lack of law breaking violent uncivilized behavior, but then that was a given. You just aren't Breaking News. Isn't shooting more fun than noted?

Hi Carteach, here via Brigid's blog. I just wanted to say that I have frequently said exactly the same things when talking to my GFW associates.

I think I have seen Kin Du Toit post a similar list:
* I did not rob any stores
* I did not threaten anybody while driving
* My weapons did not leap up and shoot anybody of their own volition
* Not one criminal stole my weapons to sell on the street
* I did not commit suicide
* I did not murder anyone
* I did not overthrow my government

Who knew so many people all thought the same way. I must spend way too much time with Left Coast people.

immagikman,

Welcome to the blog!

Yes... who knew? Sometimes the gunny blogs I read, those people feel like family now.

CT, have you tried Russian 7N1 ball in your 91/30? It's a bit pricier than the standard light ball, but it groups a heck of a lot tighter.
