Match report.... Shooters to the line!

.

Today was the regular monthly 'Military Rifle Match' at my club. The matches follow the High Power rules fairly closely, with all targets scaled to the 100 yard range. Each month's match has a theme, and most of the regular shooters try to stick somewhere within it. This month: 'Frozen Chosin', with rifles from the Korean war era.

How did the fat old man do? Well, using Liberty (My Garand), I managed a 395/500 with all shots scoring. Today's score was my second best ever, especially as I use no special gear aside from an old shooting mat and a spotting scope. I shoot against myself, and seek to boil it down to me, the rifle, and the target. My goal.... to be proficient with my rifle, and to hit the target I aim at. There are shooters there far better than I.... but I do okay.

There is a satisfaction in that, and a certain feeling of competence in the ability to do what's needed.

Now... some images from the match:

Wow, a concrete paved firing line! Bet that makes finding your brass easier as long as it doesn't bounce all the way down the line.

Is that a BAR? I've never seen one in use.

What's the bolt action in the 3rd to last picture with the conical flash hider? I don't know my military rifles well enough.

395/500 is a good score in our matches with an off-the-shelf M1 Garand using surplus ammo.

Yes... it was a BAR. A (BLEEEEPing) BAR. Unbelievable to see it at the match.... but why not? The man had fun, and garnered at least 1100 extra points just for style.

The other rifle was an Enfield jungle carbine, but I don't know about the rear sight on it. Have to look that one up. The sight looked more like a Parker Hale competition sight.

That looks like more gunny fun than I've had in years. Would've been fun to shoot multiple relays: M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, and Mosin 91/30.

Nice work, Old Man.

In the first picture, are you using a two cartridge clip?

Willorith,

Yes, the first photo is the only one that has anything of mine in it. That's my rifle laid out ready for the rapid fire prone stage. The one clip is a two round special used by high power shooters. It meets the requirements of a reload during the stage, and allows the use of a standard eight round clip to make up the total ten rounds of the stage.

On the #5 Lee-Enfield "Jungle Carbine", I think that is the normal leaf rear sight on it - at least, it looks like the one on my #4 Mk 1, and they share the same basic receiver setup.
Looks like a LOT of fun - wish I coulda been there!
In the first picture, I see a 1903 and a 1903A3 as well - but I agree, teh BAR gets MAXIMUM style points (at least until some one shows up with an M1919).

The Enfield rear sight is proper to that rifle. I've had a couple of those over the years and always sold them like a fool.

The BAR...that thing just plain rocks, assuming it's a real full-auto (but even the semi clones are still pretty cool).

Looks like a great shoot, and 395's nothing to sneeze at.

Is your M1 from the CMP?
