Carteach dusts off his wallet and buys a....

Just a quick note: The fat man needed a forward sling point for the M&P 15-22. Using a sling at the upcoming Appleseed event seems like a must... and I would very much like some training in how to use it properly. The M&P lacked such a device, but having a rail farm as a forearm, adding the mount is a snap. Ordered from Amazon.com, with free shipping no less, this little do-hickey is exactly what's called for. Fitting a 1.5" sling perfectly, with no swinging and rattling hardware hanging off it. Simple, strong, cheap, and does everything it needs to without a fuss.

The fat man approves.

Since proper sling usage will snug your hand into that rail farm pretty firmly, I might suggest some rail covers. Or you can garagineer some with a bit of gaffers tape and a rag. :-)

They'll teach you all about the sling and how to use it at Appleseed.

I wear a fingerless glove myself, but rail covers are a very good thing, at least on the bottom - your hand WILL be pressed into that stock for a long time..:-)

Second note - I wore two dime-size holes in my elbows during my first Appleseed - now I have two neoprene "elbow supports" I got at WalMart - no more abrasion!

Holy crap, looks like you could tow the Queen Mary with that sling mount.

I found that when I am able to get my elbow correctly under the rifle the point of my elbow is not against the ground. Rather, the meaty flat on the outside of my elbow bears the weight. Elbow pain goes away, replaced by stretched muscle agony, which is easy to justify as you see your groups shrink.

Standard GI web sling is what you want. Don't try to over think it and get fancy. A $12.00 web sling is as good as it gets. I can hold 1MOA at 1,000 Yds in prone with a GI web sling.

Never tried to shoot my AR with a traditional sling position so your set up might be just fine. Mounts are available wiht a standard sling swivel base built in, as are mounts for the push button swivels. Bottom mount might be just the deal for you, think about side mounting. With those rails you're no longer limited by tradition.

Nice, now get a shooting glove and some elbow protection, you WILL need both!
