Victorinox Pocket knife..... a tool for a lifetime

I've owned a knife like this one for many, many years. A gift from a real Swiss Army soldier, from Switzerland and everything. It resided in my pocket, in my vehicle, and now in my 'Oh Crap' grab and go bag.

It's the Victorinox Swiss Army Pioneer Pocket Knife.

A few weeks back, I bought another for myself as a spare, and began carrying it a few days a week, as whim dictated. Choice is a wonderful thing sometimes!

Well.... the moniker 'Carteach' comes by me honestly, and that's what I do for a career. At least... it's what I have done for the last ten years. Some of my students saw my 'Genuine Swiss Army Knife, and it was a hit. It seems that what 'Teach' uses must be good, for some reason.

This year... Carteach the teacher is going to change, and my career in public education comes to an end. As the year comes to a close, I'll admit, the rules do seem a bit more flexible all of a sudden. Rules like.... not giving students gifts.

That is why I've ordered four of the Swiss army knives like the one I carry, and the one shown here. These I'll give to students on the night of graduation, as a gift from an instructor who wishes to show how much respect he has for them as young men.

There was a time in our nation when gifts like that passed from man to boy, as a right of passage. It denoted trust, respect, and understanding.

Let not that tradition end.

Carteach, I suspect that you have given your students a gift already. Role model. Someone to look up to. Like those in military, I thank those who have taken the time to educate the young folks. Thanks for your service.

Some rural folks believe that a gifted knife will "cut" the friendship, and thus ask the giftee for a penny to turn the "gift" into a "sale" and avoid that fate. That itself is a charming little tradition that needs to be perpetuated, too.

A gift that shows the recipient the giver trusts them to be responsable folk, much like a father giving a son (or daughter) thier first rifle. Ironicly, I avoid Christmas for this, so the responsable meme won't get lost in the seasonal 'kool stuff I scored' that holiday engenders..... JohninMd(help)

That's the knife I've carried for years, except instead of the awl, it has a nail file whose end doubles as a small screwdriver (Cadet model).

It's the best knife ever. I use it every day, and I seldom need more than is on it.

And, best of all, with the Alox(?) handle, it's thin enough that it doesn't annoy me in my pocket such that I'll take it out and forget it somewhere.

That's an excellent gift, Carteach0!

I saw when you posted that these were on sale a few weeks back, and grabbed two- one for me, and one for my 11-year-old.

LOVE this knife- and I'm a guy that carries multiple knives and has for 30 years. It's a workhorse and you're right, has most of what you need.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Happy to pass on a deal when I hear about it. At $24, they are still a great deal. The quality can't be beat.
