One of two containers: Military ammo cans, when I get them in decent shape at a good price, or their modern equivalent.....Plano Ammo Can (Field Box)
While I like traditional tough military metal cans, I also rather like the light weight and tough plastic boxes sold by Plano.
There you have it....

Metal ammo cans with the rubber ring intact are the way to go. How do you handle moisture? Desiccant packs?
The Plano cans are great. I have a couple of the .50 caliber type of the MTM cans too and they are ok for in-home storage, but the field boxes are perfect for on-the-go. We take one to the range every week.
I've looked at the .30 caliber type of MTM cans, the short little jobbies, but I just can't bring myself to buy one. They just look wrong.
I've got a few of those that came with bulk ammo purchases. I mostly use them for lugging ammo and other stuff to the range.
For long term storage, I use the 50 Cal USGI cans.
A dab of silicone grease on the gaskets keeps them pliable and extends the gasket life.
Just picked up 2 AC 30 ammo cans from MTM case-gard, they are a local company and IMHO the cats meow.
The various plastic cans are a decent option if they actually have O ring type seals.
I do prefer military cans for the long term though.
