Ahem... The universe smiled on me today, and I seem to have acquired a Persian Mauser. Not just any Persian Mauser, but a Persian-Czech Cavalry model 98/29 Musketoon. Look for a post or two here as I carefully clean this old warhorse and research it..... but I can tell you right now..... Carteach IS FLOATING ON AIR!
Don't sweat the bad bore - I had an old 98 Mauser with a barrel that looked like the inside of an old sewer pipe - somebody had shot it with corrosive ammunition and put it away - and it still grouped four inches or so at 200 yards, with a military trigger. Maybe I was lucky that day, but I bet that as long as there are still lands and grooves that can spin a bullet, the finish of the barrel interior is not too important.

Nicely done Sir! :-)
Sadly, the bore is very rough indeed. Still, the rifling is strong, if not sharp, and it may shoot decently.
Besides that.... It's a Persian Cavalry Carbine!
Don't sweat the bad bore - I had an old 98 Mauser with a barrel that looked like the inside of an old sewer pipe - somebody had shot it with corrosive ammunition and put it away - and it still grouped four inches or so at 200 yards, with a military trigger. PICS or it didn't happen!
VERY Cool!
