Appleseed weekend.....

Sorry for the lack of posting this weekend, folks.   Carteach spent the time volunteering at a local Appleseed shoot.  Despite the bitter cold wind, and occasional snow squalls, people still came out to challenge that Rifleman score.  All the shooters showed some measure of improvement, some a large measure indeed.  One gentleman did achieve a score entitling him to the coveted Rifleman patch, and considering the low temps and 30+ mph wind gusts, it earned him the much rarer 'Winterseed' patch.

Folks... if you haven't attended an Appleseed clinic yet, I can't encourage you strongly enough to do so.  The skills alone are worth every second, with the history lessons being icing on the cake.

Very nice! And that would definitely deserve a COLD weather patch!!!

Yes, you get to give the Winterseed patch away, and thanks for your service. I have always wanted to say that - one shooter at a time.

Indeed 'Teach, The Appleseed events are a great way to both learn and to improve ones skill with a rifle. from absolute beginner to seasoned shooter, all will come away with improved skills. The event held at my club last year was so successful that they were invited back again for an event in April (6th & 7th at

However the participants will not be faced with snow or frigid temperatures here in Fort Lauderdale.

How much time do you spend working on using the sling and the prone position? I want to learn as much as I can about how to use my USGI sling. Thanks for your wonderful blog!

Erik,

If you take an Appleseed clinic, by the end of the weekend you will be know how to use that sling in all three positions. That's the simplest way I can say it.

When it comes to using a sling while shooting a rifle, NOTHING matches having an experienced shooter show you how, and then help you till you get it right yourself.

ok, I'm sold. I want to take my wife to one sometime in the future. Our problem is 2 small children. They make it hard to have a free weekend...
